Nigerian Army SSC Recruitment 2026/2027: Apply for Short Service Combatant Commission Course 50/2027

The Nigerian Army (NA) has announced the commencement of applications for the Short Service Combatant (SSC) Commission Course 50/2027. The recruitment exercise is open to eligible Nigerian civilians and serving military personnel who meet the prescribed requirements.

Nigerian Army SSC Recruitment 2026/2027

The Short Service Combatant Commission is designed for qualified Nigerians who wish to become officers in the Nigerian Army.

Successful SSC officers may serve in the Combat Arms, including the Infantry and Armoured Corps, as well as Combat Support Arms such as Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence Corps.

Nigerian Army SSC Course 50/2027 Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to satisfy the following conditions:

  1. Must be a Nigerian citizen by birth as defined by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

  2. Must be male or female between 23 and 28 years of age by January 2027.

  3. Must be medically, mentally and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.

  4. Must be recommended and attested to have good character by at least two recognizable referees. The referees must meet the requirements specified by the Nigerian Army.

  5. Candidates must submit a Letter of Attestation from their former institutions.

  6. Must be at least 1.68 metres tall for males and 1.65 metres for females.

  7. Must not have been convicted by any court of law. Serving military personnel must have no disciplinary case and must be endorsed by their Commanding Officer/Commander.

  8. Must possess at least a first degree with not less than Second Class Lower Division or an HND with not less than Lower Credit in relevant fields from a recognized institution. Candidates must also possess the required academic credentials at the time of application.

  9. Must possess a valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, hospital, Local Government Council or a valid age declaration.

  10. Must possess a valid Certificate of State of Origin.

  11. Applicants who are not serving members of the Armed Forces must possess an NYSC discharge certificate or valid certificate of exemption.

  12. Only post-secondary academic credentials obtained from 2015 to date will be considered.

  13. Applicants must provide valid contact addresses and telephone numbers of their parents/guardians and Next of Kin.

  14. Candidates must not have body inscriptions or tattoos.

  15. Candidates must tender the original copies of their educational certificates, from primary to post-secondary level.

  16. Serving military personnel must present valid military identification cards and letters of recommendation from their Commanding Officers/Commanders, alongside other required documents.

  17. Candidates must not belong to any cult, secret society or fraternity.

  18. Candidates must not have been dismissed or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any military or para-military training institution.

Commission After Training

According to the recruitment notice, officer cadets who successfully complete the required military training will be granted the rank of Second Lieutenant, with seniority effective from the commencement date of cadet training.

SSC officers may also have the opportunity to convert to Regular Commission, although such conversion is not automatic. It is subject to the availability of vacancies and other criteria applicable at the time.

Graduating officer cadets will also be required to sign an acceptance of the terms and conditions governing the SSC Commission before being commissioned into the Nigerian Army.
