NYSC to Enforce NERD Certificate for 2026 Mobilization
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced a major update to its mobilization process, confirming that only graduates with a valid compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) will be eligible for national service.
This move is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate certificate fraud and ensure that only authentic graduates are enlisted into the NYSC scheme.

According to the NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, the new requirement aligns with a Federal Government directive aimed at strengthening transparency and credibility in the mobilization process.
Speaking during the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop held in Abuja, he stressed that the system must be protected from manipulation and fraudulent entries.
He noted that verifying academic records through NERD would significantly reduce the risk of fake certificates entering the system.

The NYSC leadership has urged all Corps Producing Institutions (CPIs) to properly educate their students about the new requirement and ensure full compliance before mobilization begins.
General Nafiu emphasized that NYSC cannot achieve this reform alone. He called on stakeholders—including government agencies, regulatory bodies, and security institutions—to support enforcement and policy implementation.
“Collaboration is key to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible transition from graduation to national service,” he stated.

The workshop highlighted the importance of synergy among key players in the education and mobilization system. Representatives from bodies such as:
- Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
- National Universities Commission (NUC)
- National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)

Also speaking at the event, NYSC Director of Corps Mobilization, Rachel Ideawor, described the workshop as a critical platform for collaboration.
She urged Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) across institutions to handle student data with integrity and diligence, ensuring that all submitted records accurately reflect each graduate’s academic status.
