The Nigerian Army has officially opened its online application portal for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) Course 29/2026. Eligible Nigerians are invited to apply for commission as officers into specialized corps of the Nigerian Army.

The DSSC is open to both civilians and serving military personnel who possess relevant professional qualifications. Successful applicants will be commissioned as officers and deployed to areas where their expertise will support national defence and internal security operations.

Nigerian Army DSSC 29/2026 Categories

Applicants can apply into the following specialized corps:

  1. Nigerian Army Engineers
  2. Nigerian Army Signals
  3. Nigerian Army Medical Corps
  4. Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME)
  5. Nigerian Army Education Corps

Each corps requires specific academic and professional qualifications relevant to its operations.

General Requirements

Candidates applying for the SSC/DSSC must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree or HND from a recognized institution. Applicants are encouraged to carefully review all eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance.

Eligibility Criteria for Nigerian Army DSSC 29/2026

All applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen by birth.
  • Be male or female aged 20 – 32 years by 30 March 2026.
    • Medical Consultants: 25 – 40 years.
  • Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
  • Be of good character and recommended by two (2) reputable referees (Local Government Chairman/Secretary, senior military officer not below Lieutenant Colonel, or Assistant Commissioner of Police and above from the applicant’s state of origin).
  • Submit a letter of attestation from former institutions.
  • Minimum height requirement:
    • Male: 1.68m
    • Female: 1.65m
  • Must not have any criminal conviction.
  • Military personnel must be free from disciplinary cases and endorsed by their Commanding Officer.
  • Possess:
    • First Degree (minimum Second Class Upper) or
    • HND (minimum Upper Credit).
  • Present valid:
    • Birth certificate or age declaration
    • State of origin certificate
    • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate
  • Professional qualifications must be registered with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Only academic credentials obtained from 2011 to date will be accepted.
  • No tattoos or bodily inscriptions.
  • Must not belong to any cult, secret society, or fraternity.
  • Service personnel must have served not less than 5 years and present valid military ID and recommendation letters.

Conditions of Service

  • DSSC engagement is for 15 years.
  • Officers who convert to Direct Regular Commission (DRC) may serve up to 35 years.
  • DSSC officers will be on probation for the first 3 years.
  • Conversion to DRC is not automatic.
  • All officer cadets must sign an acceptance of service terms.
  • Rank on completion of training:
    • Medical Consultants: Major
    • Other Officers: Lieutenant

Corps and Services

Applications should be into any of the following Corps and Services of the NA:

a.       Nigerian Army Engineers.   Applicants must possess a minimum of BSc, B Eng (Second Class Upper) degree or HND (Upper Credit) in any of the following areas: Quantity Survey, Architecture, Building Engineering/Technology, Estate Management, GIS/Survey, Geology as well as Urban and Regional Planning. Such academic fields must be registered with the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) or regulating professional bodies.

b.     Nigerian Army Signals.   Applicants must possess a minimum of BSc, B Tech, B Eng (Second Class Upper) degree or HND (Upper Credit) in any of the following areas: Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, Software Developer, Software Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Control Security Engineering, Network Design/Engineering, UAV Pilot, Geographic Information Systems Engineering, Microwave Engineering, Database Management Engineering/Administrator, Project Manager Engineering, System Control Engineering and Satellite Communication Engineering.

c.         Nigerian Army Medical Corps.  All applicants for the NA Medical Corps are expected to present proof of registration with their professional regulatory bodies and current practicing license. Other requirements are as follows:

(1)     Medical Consultants of Various Disciplines.      Applicants could belong to fields of specialization such as General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Anaesthesia, Neuro-Surgery, Cardiothoracic, ENT Surgery, Physicians (Cardiologists, Endocrinologist, Nephrologists and Neurologists), Ophthalmologists as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecologists, Pediatricians, Family Medicine, Dentistry and any other recognized specialty. Applicants must also satisfy the following criteria:

(a)     Must be Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or equivalent Postgraduate Medical College.

(b)     Not be more than 40 years of age by 30 March 2026.

(c)     Must have full registration of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for the undergraduate degree and additional qualification registration as appropriate.

(d)     Must have current MDCN license to practice as a specialist.

(2)     Medical Doctors (Non-Consultants).  Applicants must possess Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery/Bachelor of Dental Surgery for medical doctors and dental surgeons respectively and must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and possess a current practicing license.

(3)     Nurses.  Applicants must be Registered Nurse and be in the following categories; Midwifery, Pediatrics, Nephrology, Orthopaedic, Anaesthetist, Psychiatry and any other recognized specialty. They must be fully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

(4)     Nursing.     Applicants must possess BSc Nursing and fully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

(5)     Professionals Allied to Medicine.  Applicants must possess a degree in either; Optometry, Environmental Health Technology, Dental Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Psychology, and General Psychology. Others are Occupational Therapy, Dental Therapy, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Health Information Management, Dietetics and any other Professions Allied to Medicine.

(6)     Pharmacists.         Applicants must possess Bachelor of Pharmacy and must be fully registered with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria.

d.       Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.   Applicants must possess a minimum of B Eng, BSc (Eng) (Second Class Upper) degree or HND (Upper Credit) in any of the following areas: Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering, Material/Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial/Production Engineering, Physics/Electronics Engineering, Weapon Engineering, Computer/Software Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Systems/Avionics Engineering. Such academic fields must be registered with the Nigerian Society of Engineers and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) or regulating professional bodies.

e.       Nigerian Army Education Corps.    Applicants must possess a minimum of BSc (Ed) or BA (Ed) (Second Class Upper) degree or HND (Upper Credit) in any of the following areas: Mathematics, Computer Science/ICT, as well as Library and Information Science. All applicants for Education Corps are expected to present proof of registration with their professional regulatory bodies.
